The LineGrabber™ allows the Rescue Alert Medical Alarm to call for help when activated even when another telephone extension is off-hook in the house. (see note)
When several telephone jacks in a home share the same line, and a telephone is off-hook, your Rescue Alert unit may not be able to seize the line to make the emergency call.
The LineGrabber™ can help to solve this problem by allowing the Rescue Alert to seize the phone line from other connected devices (phone, fax, computer modem) on the same line, without the installation of an RJ31X jack.
The LineGrabber™ will work with rotary, pulse, and tone dialing phones, and is compatible with caller id, message waiting, and DSL.
How many LineGrabbers™ will I need?
For proper line seizure, each telephone device that shares the line with the Rescue Alert RA400 must have a LineGrabber™. The RA400 connects directly to the jack without a LineGrabber™. If there is a telephone connected behind the medical alert base unit, it needs a LineGrabber™.
Should I Use the LineGrabber™ or RJ31X?
The LineGrabber™ and the RJ-31X jack both achieve the same goal. Hardware cost for the LineGrabber is higher than with an RJ-31X jack, but when you consider the labor and electrical permits cost, the LineGrabber™ may be less expensive. The LineGrabber™ is designed for apartments, small homes, and stores where an RJ-31X jack would be a time-consuming installation. Installing LineGrabber™ is easier than installing an RJ-31X jack because it does not require hard wiring and most people can plug them in themselves.
